Machine Learning Engineer
At Zero Point Motion, we’re rewriting the rules of inertial sensing and precision navigation. Our technology combines advanced semiconductors, photonics, and big data to create transformative solutions in positioning and sensor systems. We reject traditional silos and thrive at the intersection of hardware and software. If you’re a bold thinker ready to build scalable, elegant systems in a deep-tech environment, we want you on our team.
What you'll do at ZPM
In this role, you will harness the power of machine learning to push the frontiers of physics and engineering—right at the intersection of cutting-edge software and hardware. You’ll design, develop, and deploy advanced ML models to solve real-world design optimization challenges in silicon photonics and MEMS, driving next-generation breakthroughs in integrated photonic circuits and micro-mechanical systems.
Working shoulder-to-shoulder with chip designers, physicists and hardware engineers, you’ll refine components that directly shape the future of sensing. By applying your skills in ML-driven optimization, you’ll make simulations more accurate, design cycles more efficient, and overall system performance more robust—without needing prior MEMS or silicon photonics experience. If you’re fueled by curiosity, passionate about bridging digital theory with physical reality, and excited to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, this is your chance to build something genuinely transformative. Join us and help redefine what’s possible in the world of hardware-driven machine learning.
Your key responsibilities will include:
• Develop and implement machine learning models to optimize MEMS design parameters by interfacing with the design tools such as ANSYS and COMSOL and Lumerical.
• Apply genetic optimization and other AI-driven techniques to enhance the mechanical and photonic performance of our MEMS sensors.
• Develop and refine models that allow rapid data analysis of the incoming wafer and chip data
• Work closely with MEMS and PIC designers to refine sensor and actuator designs and workflow.
• Improve design efficiency by automating parameter tuning and sensitivity analysis.
• Develop ML pipelines for performance prediction, optimization and exploration of the design space.
• Ensure robust data processing and feature extraction for ML-based MEMS modelling.
The experience you have:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in machine learning, deep learning, and data science.
• Strong understanding of engineering first principles
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Proficiency in Python and experience with ML libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn.
• Experience in analyzing complex datasets, driving insights, and communicating results in a simple and clear way to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience using optimisation language tools like OptiSlang
• Evidence in delivering high-impact projects to users or businesses with clear metrics
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed computing.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Knowledge of MLOps principles, model deployment, and version control.
• Ability to write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
• Deep curiosity for exploring cutting-edge methods in machine learning, optimization algorithms, and big data analytics.
• Ability to improve speed and scalability on CPUs/GPUs.
While not essential, some great to haves:
• Previous experience in working with ANSYS or COMSOL or Lumerical or similar
• Computer vision, or reinforcement learning.
• Familiarity with big data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka is a plus.
• Contributions to open-source ML projects or publications in ML conferences.
• Experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with MEMS and silicon photonics design principles is a bonus.
